Cole Custer seals Xfinity Series regular-season championship
Custer is the reigning Xfinity Series champion and although Stewart-Haas Racing is closing at the end of the season, team owner Gene Haas is keeping one Cup Series charter to run Custer next year. Custer's win Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway gave him the driver championship over Justin Allgaier and bonus points to carry into the playoffs.
Alex Bowman on pole for NASCAR Cup playoff race in Bristol
Bowman made the playoffs by winning the street race at Chicago in a victory that probably saved his seat in the No. 48 Chevrolet. Now in the playoffs, he's untouchable and under contract at Hendrick through 2025.
Aric Almirola wins NASCAR Xfinity playoff opener at Kansas
Almirola won the first stage before dropping back as far as 30th due to a pit road incident and making contact with the wall. Neither deterred Almirola from continuing to run that high line that ultimately led him to victory.
Most NASCAR Championships
NASCAR has crowned a Cup Series champion every year since 1949. The title is decided by a scoring system that awards drivers points based on race results throughout the season.

Although several drivers have won multiple championships, there's only one who earned the nickname "The King."

It’s time to crown a NASCAR Cup Series champion. After a grueling 26-race regular season, the NASCAR playoffs begins. It’s been a thrilling season so far with no clear favorite heading into the final 10 weeks. So, what’s in store for the 2024 playoffs? Here’s a full preview of the postseason, including an explanation of the complicated format, the drivers competing, the schedule and some predictions:
Ross Chastain wins NASCAR CUP Series race at Kansas Speedway
The seventh-generation watermelon farmer took the lead from Martin Truex Jr. on a restart with 20 laps to go, then held off title contender William Byron the rest of the way to the finish line. It was the first win for Chastain since last year's finale at Phoenix.
From last in standings, Sammy Smith advances in Xfinity playoffs
It was the first win of the year for the JR Motorsports driver, who was 12th in the 12-driver playoff field at the start of the race. Four drivers will be cut from the field next Saturday on the hybrid road course/oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Smith, who has two career wins, snapped a 56-race losing streak after picking team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s brain about racing at Talladega. Earnhardt won six Cup Series races at the Alabama superspeedway.
NASCAR's way of doing business dates back to 1948. Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin are challenging that ethos, saying stock car racing needs to change.
