Vanecek, 26, gives the Devils a level of dependability in net. He went 20-12-6 with four shutouts, a 2.67 goals-against average and .908 save percentage with the Capitals last year, splitting time with IIya Samsonov.
 

Anaheim Ducks shore up center position, give Isac Lundestrom two-year, $3.6 million contract


Center Isac Lundestrom has agreed to a two-year, $3.6 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks. Lundestrom and the Ducks avoided arbitration with the deal announced Monday. Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek has re-signed all of the club's restricted free agents. The 22-year-old Lundestrom had 16 goals and 19 assists last year in his first full NHL season, ranking fourth on the roster in goals. The Swede also excelled as a penalty killer, tying former Ducks forward Corey Perry's franchise record with four short-handed goals.

New Jersey Devils sign Jonas Sigenthaler to 5-year extension


The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler to a five-year, $17 million contract extension starting next season, general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced Tuesday.The Swiss defenseman will make an annual average of $3.4 million, with the two biggest paychecks in the first two years of the extension. Siegenthaler, 25, set career highs last season in games played (70), assists (13), points (14), shots (92), and in all-time, on-ice metrics. He led all New Jersey defensemen in hits, ranked second on the team in blocked shots, and was third in short-handed time on ice/time on ice.

Adidas won't seek to renew NHL uniform and apparel deal after 2023-24 season, league says


Adidas will not return as the NHL's official supplier of uniforms and apparel when their agreement expires after the 2023-24 season, the NHL confirmed to ESPN on Thursday. Sources told ESPN that Adidas, which has two years remaining on its seven-year deal, was the catalyst in not seeking to renew with the NHL. The league has started to make other apparel companies aware that the rights are back in play. "The NHL and Adidas look forward to continuing to work closely together over the next two years and to a smooth transition to the new authentic NHL uniform supplier, which will be announced by the NHL at the appropriate time," the NHL said in a statement.

Klingberg appeared to deserve top defenseman money when he peaked at 67 points with solid underlying metrics in 2017-18. His numbers have declined some in recent years, especially defensively.

The 24-year-old Bratt set career highs last season in goals (26), assists (47), shots (197), power-play points (18), time on ice (17:26) and points (73).

Calgary Flames, Andrew Mangiapane avoid arbitration with three-year deal
Mangiapane, 26, is coming off career highs in goals (35) and assists (20) in 2021-22 while playing in all 82 regular-season games. He had three goals and three assists in the postseason as the Flames reached the second round of the playoffs, losing to the Edmonton Oilers in five games.
 

United States trounces Switzerland to improve to 2-0 in world junior hockey championship


Carter Mazur scored twice in the United States' five-goal second period, and the defending champion Americans beat Switzerland 7-1 on Thursday night to improve to 2-0 in the world junior hockey championship. Brock Faber, Landon Slaggert, Matthew Corondato, Thomas Bordeleau and Riley Duran also scored for the United States. Kaidan Mbereko made 23 saves, allowing only Joel Henry's goal that tied it at 1 midway through the second.The United States will face Austria on Saturday and close Group B round-robin play against Sweden on Sunday. The Americans opened the postponed tournament Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over Germany.

Kadri, who turns 32 in October, had a career-best 87 points in 71 games for the Colorado Avalanche last season. He has 512 points in 739 games over his 13-year NHL career, which includes 10 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Chicago Blackhawks agree to 1-year deal with Jack Johnson
Johnson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 draft, had one goal and eight assists in 74 games with the Avalanche last season. Johnson, listed at 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds, also skated in 13 playoff games.

Czech Republic topples defending champion United States in world junior hockey quarterfinals


Petr Hauser and Matyas Sapovaliv scored in a 3:11 span of the second period, and the Czech Republic upset the United States 4-2 in the world junior hockey quarterfinals Wednesday night. The defending champion United States dropped out after going 4-0 and never trailing in round-robin play. Tomas Suchanek made 28 saves to help the Czech Republic set up a semifinal against Canada on Saturday night. Earlier, Canada beat Switzerland 6-3, Sweden held off Latvia 2-1 and Finland beat Germany 5-2.

Dallas Stars sign goalie Jake Oettinger to 3-year, $12 deal after breakout season
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Oettinger ranked 10th in the NHL last season with a 2.53 goals-against average, and also had a .914 save percentage. He set a single-season franchise record for the fewest games to reach his 25th victory, doing so in his 40th appearance.
