The Avengers full trailer

I think it'll be good because it looks really good (to me.)

I have no problem saying Marvel movies (Iron Man 2) or Joss Whedon projects (Dollhouse) are shit when they're shit.

My argument is this:

Characters
1. Iron Man played by Robert Downey Junior is a full on character that requires space to be allowed to be arrogant yet likeable. If his part is rushed, he will come across like a cock.
2. Thor is the eye candy "for the ladies" yet is also a lead character who needs time to be explained.
3. Scarlett will need to appear extremely sexy and the time she will have on screen basically she will have to get her tats out to appeal to the male audience

Powers
This is a blockbuster where they will have to assume the audience does not have the encyclopaedic knowledge of Marvel that you lot will. This means that each character will have to have at least 5 minutes of power introduction, which they will mix up with the character history introduction. It will be so rushed it will appear like Wall-E reading books.

Storyline
Ok, so we have Thors family member basically building evil shit to take over the world. There will be very little time for anything else. Loki will have no time apart from to snarl at the camera / Fury.

Samuel L Jackson
My summation is that he is now so famous and honed his act, that he basically plays the character from Pulp Fiction EVERY FUCKIN MOVIE. I have grown tired of this about 12 months ago, and as I am at the cutting edge of the hipster scale, I expect the world is exactly one year behind me. Ergo, they will find him tiresome soon too.

In summary - too fucking much in the movie to really pay any attention to it. It will appear like JJ Abrams and Brett Ratner having a fight with an expensive camera after a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Well I agree to some extent about SLJ (although I think he's fine in the trailer), but I'm expecting he'll only properly appear in the first twenty minutes or so to introduce stuff then shockingly die/be put in a coma in a "SHIT JUST GOT REAL" moment and sit the rest of the movie out.

Tom Hiddleston managed to make Loki interesting and somewhat sympathetic in Thor (which itself had loads of stuff in it) and I like his delivery of the one line we hear from him in the trailer so I'm hopeful he'll be able to do similary well with limited screentime here.

The limited screentime part is something I was worried about too, but Joss IS really genuinely good at balancing multiple characters and giving them all moments to shine (well, okay, not Inara in Serenity) so I'm hopeful and I'm not usually hopeful about a lot of things.

I really don't think Marvel is going to spend that much time pandering to audiences that might not know who The Avengers are, since they literally just spent five entire films doing that. Popular films (mostly) - films that were watched beyond the comics audience.

The people who don't have at the very least a basic idea of what The Avengers are are not the people who will be seeing this film.

Lego’s ‘Avengers’ Vs. Marvel’s

By THE DEADLINE TEAM | Saturday March 31, 2012 @ 2:35pm PDT

Lego has released its version of the poster for Marvel’s The Avengers. For convenient comparison we’ve also provided the movie version the studio released awhile back. When the movie opens May 4, Disney/Marvel and Lego will give away 2 million of the Lego posters at theaters nationwide. Interested fans can also check out Avengers toys on Marvel’s website.

Looks good, except Iron Man looks like an angry French motorcyclist who is flipping people off but they censored it.

Joss Whedon: Directing 'Avengers' Was 'Like Herding Adorable Kittens'

Joss Whedon ("The Avengers," "Firefly," "Serenity," "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Dollhouse") is at this very moment holding IAMA court over on Reddit and discussing all manner of Whedonisms.

Not surprisingly, the tone of the Q&A session started with pleas from Redditors for Whedon to fire back up the cult hit TV series "Firefly" which only lasted one season. "The Avengers" who?

Whedon did get around to answering some questions on the "The Avengers" after repeatedly stating there won't be a continuation of the "Firefly" series -- even if fans do start a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to buy the rights to the show.

"How was working with the 'Avengers' team?" Redditor Vithren asked. Whedon's response? "Like herding adorable kittens."

Indeed. He later goes on to say that working with the star cast "was easy because they looked after each other" and that it "really was a dream ensemble."

Other interesting tidbits from the Reddit IAMA session include that Whedon adores spaceships (specifically spaceships in trouble), Shakespeare, movie scores and "Dune".

Whedon is set for a big spring and summer with the soon to be released "Cabin In The Woods" which he co-wrote, followed in May by "The Avengers".

For more of candid Joss Whedon head over to the Reddit thread where -- as of this writing -- he was still answering questions.
Note: He left.

I like how Firefly fans ignore the fact that most of the Firefly cast are regulars in other shows now and aren't gong to just drop everything to do a revamp of something they did a decade ago.

I was thinking more along the lines of star trek the motion picture, although to be fair, I don't think a lot of them had to turn down other work for that.

They had to turn down all those guest shots on Barnaby Jones and Love Boat, as well as the kids' birthday parties and lawn-mowing gigs.

A reliable source* tells me that the Avengers all die in the first 15 minutes. The only people capable of stopping Loki are the Great Lake Avengers. Starring Felicia Day as Squirrel Girl.
