WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO EAT FOR BREAKFAST??

Dr. Dave--It's not required to eat lunch in the cafeteria with the students. There's only 25 mins for lunch, however, and if I chose to walk to the Teacher's Lounge on the other side of campus, I'd only have about 10 mins to eat.

The Call of Nature--kids start coming in the building at 7 AM, and dismissal bell rings around 2:15. I get out around 2:30; later if there are meetings.

I'm thinking of just having a snack during lunch, and eating an official lunch after dismissal. Part of the problem is having to eat so quickly the "full" signal doesn't have time to activate, and I eat more than I should. This is why teachers are fat. ;)

I recommend a snack that is rich in fibers. Graham bread or Pumpernickel with butter and thinly sliced apple, for example. Or muesli. Or a light salad with a few slices of chicken breast. What I was very fond of as a child was a slice of sour dough rye bread with butter, sprinkled with raisins and finely sliced hazelnuts. It's brain food, satiating and not too high in calories.

Is there a law against sending grits in the mail? I could send you some with DETAILED instructions (they're not that hard to make, really). I prefer the 5 minute type of grits, as opposed to instant or the kind you need to cook for a long time. I still cook them much longer than 5 minutes, so they're extra creamy.

@The Call of Nature, grits are ground corn, basically.

The wiki article is kinda funny, I like how whoever wrote it can't decide if "grits" is singular or plural. The word "grits" is plural, IMO, since there are lots of grits in a bowl of grits! Also, when it says "Grits can also be fried in a pan or mold to create a firm block." they've got it backwards. You cook them first in water, then you can mold the grits into a firm block, slice it and pan fry it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

Here is a site re: shipping to Germany:

Grits are yummy, yummy. Extra good as a side with scrambled eggs, bacon, wheat toast with orange marmalade, and a cup of coffee. I'm up. Breakfast sounds like a very good idea!

LOL at the list. This assortment is just priceless. Sometimes the best jokes are the ones made unvoluntarily. (Or, as a friend of mine who wrote a thesis on humour would put it: it's one of the cases where life fools back at you)

On the surface, it seems strange that some of those items are on that list. I'm always curious to the reasoning as to why. Just what are you Germans doing with those unwrapped playing cards, melatonin, and pulverized cocoa beans?

There is tax on playing cards. The packs must be wrapped and the seal undamaged to prove they have properly been taxed. However, this goes only for merchants. A normal tourist may of course bring their own cards, used or unused.

Melatonin is not available here without a prescription and we have a ban on imports of all substances for which you need one. However, you may bring a small quantity for your personal use if you have a medical certificate that confirms that you require it.

With the cocoa I can only speculate. We have trading treaties with certain states and as with grated cocoa beans it's difficult to determine their origin and quality, forbidding them makes sure that we only import cocoa beans from our partners.
A second reason may be the fact that ground cocoa beans tend to very quickly get mouldy, causing (often lethal) aflatoxin poisoning

I shouldn't have said so myself. Personally, I consider the most important discussion of the day not the question what'll be the topping of my breakfast roll but rather who gets on top when by the end of the day we're rolling in bed.
