OK. This reminds me of 2 stories. And crap, I'm embarrsassed that I can't remember the name of the comedian in the first story. One of the early 90s black comedians. Was a relatively big name to come do a show for a shitty little state university in a town of less than 30,000 people. Came up to Northern Wisconsin at the coldest time of the year. Rondell Sheridan. I remembered he did a bit about how the "That's the Way (Uh-huh, uh-huh) I Like It" song has almost no lyrics and I was able to Google him by it. Anyway, he's just doing the patter between bits and goes "Who here hates the cold," and of course he gets applause so he goes "Move." Confused silence. "I'm serious, why live somewhere you hate?" Or words to that effect. It stuck with me and I did move. So few years back I sent him a message about how his act played a big part in the life I chose for myself with that one little joke. He wrote me a very nice message back.

I was back in Oregon when BSG ended and McMenamin's--a pub chain that buys up cool old buildings and converts them into pubs, hotels, and movie theaters--was airing the finale at one of the theaters and would have Katee Sackoff there. I showed up at what I thought was a reasonable time and there was a line around the block. By the time I got to the end of the line, word came back that they were at capacity. The place was an old theatre, so they had a movie theater in the front of the house and a pool hall in the backstage area so I went back there for a beer. So technically I was in the same building as Katee Sackhoff for the series finale of BSG.

3 stories--Dan Ackroyd. When I was at school for the Marines, a bunch of us got roped into being escorts for the princesses at a big nearby spring festival and the town had gotten Dan Ackroyd to be the Grand Marshal (along with Irlene Mandrell as another celebrity host). He was great. They put on a show where the princesses (or whoever, I forget) were all dressed like Blues Brothers and he came down on stage, grabbed a hat and sunglasses and performed with them. He said "We're on a mission from God," and other stuff from his career probably far more times than he cared to and I've got a nice picture of him surrounded by about 30 Marine 2nd Lieutenants in dress blues.
 
Oh, and I'm deleting content out of FB because the site is crap and I thought this was a fairly interesting bit of writing that I don't remember if I mentioned here or not:
The commonalities (and differences) of religions are interesting: Our Devil is "Lucifer," from lux and fero--light bringer in Latin. He is condemned and cast out by God. Then in Genesis he convinces Adam and Eve to eat forbidden fruit, which gives man knowledge.
In Greek mythology, Prometheus is a powerful old god who gives knowledge to humanity in the form of fire (he is quite literally a light bringer). So he gets condemned to eternal suffering by Zeus, the chief god.
 
I'm hard pressed to think of anything you can't add to potatoes. A friend dropped off some cherry tomatoes and baby red potatoes. I'd been working my way through them and decided to just git r dun. Diced up the potatoes and pan fried them in olive oil. Added diced ham, onions, the last of the cherry tomatoes, grated some Swiss cheese over it all, added a ton of sea salt, fresh ground pepper. Even a few diced green olives. I can't remember if I added oregano and Parmesan or not. Mushrooms would've been good. Maybe some red wine.
 
One of my best pieces of spontaneous writing was when someone posted a meme of Forrest Gump as Dirty Harry and I replied with "My mamma always said 'life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get' but, being as this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and it will take your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"
 
Got rid of the group star trek universe on Facebook, practically every post I made got deleted and half of what is.posted is pictures of star trek actors in other shows.
