Peyton Manning, Charles Woodson lead list of 2021 finalists for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Four players in their first year of eligibility are among the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2021. Quarterback Peyton Manning, defensive back Charles Woodson, wide receiver Calvin Johnson and defensive end Jared Allen lead the list of finalists. As many as five of the finalists will be chosen later this month for enshrinement. The finalists were announced Tuesday. It is the second time in the past four years that four players in their first year of eligibility have been finalists in the same year. Those four players, with a combined 33 Pro Bowl appearances in their careers, join cornerback Ronde Barber, tackle Tony Boselli, safety LeRoy Butler, guard Alan Faneca, wide receiver Torry Holt, safety John Lynch, linebacker Clay Matthews Jr., linebacker Sam Mills, defensive lineman Richard Seymour, linebacker Zach Thomas and wide receiver Reggie Wayne as finalists.

Top 17 Heisman Trophy candidates for 2021 college football season

All four of this year's Heisman finalists are expected to declare for the NFL draft after next week's CFP national championship. The number of offensive stars departing for the NFL creates an air of mystery around the 2021 Heisman race, and programs like Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida and Texas will be replacing accomplished quarterbacks. Although not every draft-eligible player has made his decision, I'm not including the players who are widely expected to move on to the next level.

Duke Blue Devils AD Kevin White to step down in August after 13 years

Just a month after the ACC hired a new commissioner, its longest-serving athletic director is also retiring. Duke AD Kevin White announced he would step down in August after leading the Blue Devils' athletics since 2008, and university president Vincent Price said the school would soon begin a national search for White's replacement. "This unequivocally represents the most difficult professional decision that I have ever made," White said in a release from the school. "As I look forward to completing my 47th year in higher education, including teaching, coaching, and administration, it is simply the right time to step aside and provide a distinct opportunity for both new and different voices, and a more contemporary vision." During White's tenure at Duke, the Blue Devils captured eight NCAA championships, including the 2010 and 2015 men's basketball titles. The Blue Devils' men's basketball program, which finished the 2006-07 season unranked, landed in the top 10 in 10 of White's 13 years at Duke.

The 2021 Way-Too-Early college football top 25

Even in a 2020 college football season that featured more starts and stops than Los Angeles traffic, there were a handful of near certainties, such as Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State reaching the College Football Playoff. Even a pandemic couldn't balance power in the most top-heavy sport. Will we finally see those heavyweights fall back in 2021? Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence has already declared for the NFL draft. Will Alabama's Mac Jones and Ohio State's Justin Fields be next? Will it be enough for programs such as Georgia, North Carolina and Texas A&M to close the gap on teams that have dominated their conferences for much of the past decade? For now, here's the first edition of the 2021 Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings.

Which college football teams are primed for success in 2021 based on their recruiting classes?

With the 2020 college football season in the rearview, it's never too early to look ahead at the next season and which teams are primed for success. Recruiting is often a good data point to predict the health of a roster and the future success teams could have. It's no secret Alabama has recruited incredibly well under Nick Saban, and the chances his team will be back in the playoff hunt are very high. A big part of that is because of how much talent is returning next season -- not just for Alabama, but for every team that is looking to reach next season's playoff. This isn't a prediction of where teams will end up at the end of the 2021 season, but rather a look at which teams are returning the most talent to their roster.
