Do these guys have a dart board full of potential city-ending disasters and just shoot blindly?

Glad to see the sub plot moving along.

Does Bear need to do a cover song every episode?

Sad to see Gale Harold's character get killed. He was pretty and I like him as an actor.
 
What pissed me off about them killing him was that we just found out something about him and the mayor that explained their characters a little bit and then BAM they killed him off. Also, I thought he was one of the better characters on the show, even though he wasn't even one of the main characters. It's pretty sad when a redshirt is more likeable than the characters we're supposed to care about.
 
Yeah I liked hat guy because even though he worked for the EVIL Earth Republic he wasn't a bad guy really and Nolan shouldn't have been such a dick to him really.

I thought this was probably the best episode of Defiance yet because of the scene with Datak going nuts and the Mrs SQUAWKING stuff being entertaining. But I fucking hate the orange-haired aliens and their shit. "Durr, let's steal medicine even though its arrival means we're about to be released, durr!"
 
They were convinced that they were gonna get euthanized/genocided because they're filthy diseased dirt worshipers.

The whole native american thing doesn't work. Why would the Votans bring the dirty people with them on their arks? wouldn't you leave the disease carriers behind?
 
Something else that just popped into my head. Hat guy would have been on board with Datak's scheme. He wants Mayor lady to get the fuck out of her job. Second, being that he is from the evil empire of the east, he's supposed to be shady. Therefore Datak would trust him more. I think Datak's killing rage was the only real motivation he had for killing hat guy. He could have just killed sheriff person and hat guy would have gone along with the whole thing. Hat guy gets the girl, Datak gets to be mayor for a bit until he's assassinated, wifey gets to step up and own the family biz, everyone wins.

Something of a small kudos to the writers. Anyone else notice that hat guy was the only one being totally rational and didn't look sick the whole time. I think they wanted his normalness and seeming to be healthy to goad the fans into believing he'd be ok, then pull the switcheroo by offing him. I think the shock value worked well enough. It has all of us pissed he died.

And one nitpick. Why does everyone who gets shot in the head need to get shot in the middle of the forehead? WHY!? They didn't do this cliche in Public Enemies. It's one of the only few times I've seen a somewhat natural headshot death. Other than that, I'd love to finally see people get shot anywhere in the face than the forehead... dead center in the forehead. fuck that shit.
 
I get the impression that Datak would be nothing without his scheming, manipulative and much more intelligent wife. She would have seen all the implications in a moment but all Datak saw was a witness to his freak out. And it's a shame they killed that character, they developed him much more than anyone else on the show since he started out as a slimy and probably unethical corporate guy and became a sympathetic person I hoped to see more of in future episodes. And he's pretty.

And I still see the redheads as gypsies, not NA. But you're right, why were they along for the ride? No one likes them.

Either way, I think we're all in agreement that we don't like the Native-American-Gypsy-Kazon people.
 
OH NO MRS SQUAWKINGS!!!

Okay, I actually enjoyed most of this episode. I liked FINALLY knowing something about the town's past. Finding out that mayor Nicky was an Indogene was cool, and even though they killed her off, we're left knowing more about Dr Yewll than we did before. I'm sure the golden thingamabob will come back into play eventually.

Jaime Murray was all kinds of awesome IMO. When she was arguing with Data about the wedding and she got fired up and the real Stahma came out.. she just did a really good job pulling that off. Then realizing what she was doing, she changed back.

Irisa's idea of wedding attire was adorable.

Nolan and Rafe get on my nerves. Nolan is way too awww shucks, and Rafe just stomps around angrily for no reason. I think I would like Rafe more if they would give us some back story on him, I don't mind the actor, but the character is empty OR SOMETHING.
 
I might actually be unhappy with the Mrs Squawking development, actually. I liked her as a crazy old woman. Now it's like they're saying "she was only evil because she was an alien!" It's kind of racist.

And I'm sad they killed the dwarf bartender guy. He had pictures of cats in his trailer.
 
Another pretty decent episode IMO. Maybe Defiance is slowly getting better. They seem to have decided that instead of some weekly attack from outside to focus on the characters and their assholish natures. It's making everyone more interesting.

GOLD THINGAMABOB ALREADY BACK IN PLAY. I figured they'd let that sit for awhile, and bring it up next season as the big bad thing they need to fight against.

Even Data's son is more interesting now. How is he going to satisfy his evil father and his evil father in law and stay alive?
 
Yeah it was okay. DJ Alak Tarr is a bit stupid, though (and moustache guy beating him up seemed a bit extreme?)

What happened to Moustache Guy's son/Dull Girl's brother? I remember Mrs SQUAWKING telling him to go somewhere and nobody mentioned him again after that. I guess they don't care?

Was the woman who captured Little Wolf at the end the one who was going to blow up the town then went off on wacky adventures with one of the pussy husbands? Or another one? THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE.

The end song didn't seem to match what was happing on screen at all. They need to stop those.

They did weird musical interludes on SGU too, parts played more like a music video. It's distracting.
