SO hasn't this whole thing with the Doctor not wanting to help people because his companions have left/died been done before? I don't know if I like it.
The blue circles are a bit distracting, particularly being at eye level, but it looks pretty good. I was never too keen on the more organic look. It looked a bit like Moya.
I finally saw the ad for the Christmas special yesterday. I'M SURE YOU'VE ALL SEEN IT MONTHS AGO I'm kind of excited about it because usually there isn't shit on TV on Christmas day and our family doesn't have a big Christmas celebration on Christmas day so I NEED SOME TV.
It was OKAY/GOOD except I didn't like the "THE DOCTOR DOESN'T HELP PEOPLE HE'S ALL DARK" thing at the start and it was like they couldn't be bothered sticking to it when he was pretending to be wacky Sherlock Holmes ten minutes later. And I'm sure I'll get annoyed if every Clara episode ends with her dying and saying the same thing (but maybe they won't!)
Richard E Grant didn't really get much to do DID HE. Actually neither did the snowmen really (but I guess the BBC spend all their CGI money on CGI'ing Jimmy Savile out of old programmes.)
I think all the references to the underground must be some NERD REFERENCES but they were just confusing to a non-nerd (and even the Doctor couldn't remember what it was for some reason?)
Most of the previous Christmas specials have not been part of some story arc, or rammed full of previously seen characters, Moffat does love to re-use his favourite creations/actors.
Take away the fact that part of it was set on Christmas day (which in itself almost went by unnoticed) and you are left an episode that could have been any episode in a regular season, with a stupid invisible staircase going up to a cloud.
Best thing in the whole show was the opening titles.
I liked the stupid invisible staircase going up to a cloud.
I thought it was a pretty good episode over all. I mean it had the usual slightly technobabbly, slightly wishy washy thing where a really strong human emotion or thought is powerful enough to demolish the bad guy plan, but it was entertaining and fun.
For some reason I really like the idea of Clara and the Doctor being a couple, even though I've been really sick of the will they/won't they element with every bloody companion since the relaunch.
Maybe the Underground is a strategic mistake because of the Silurians? (Though the Doc seemed to imply it was because tunnels only have two exits.)
I didn't mind that there wasn't a huge focus on Christmas because you can only use all the clichés so many times before it becomes old hat.
Clara's adorable, she could read from the phone book and I couldn't love her more. Amy Pond was beautiful too but she didn't sparkle like this one. Girl crush. I hope there's some romance in the Doctor's future.
I really liked it, but I'm not a Doctor Who AFICIONADO or anything. I like how they made Clara the chick from the other episode who was a Dalek (OR SOMETHING?). I was wondering if they were going to pretend she hadn't already been in an ep, and was an entirely new character. I think having the Doctor figure her out will be fun.
