Complacent' Kurt Busch, 45, officially retires from NASCAR
Busch won 34 races in 776 starts over 23 years in the Cup Series. He landed as a consultant for his old 23XI Racing and Toyota. He counseled Travis Pastrana at last year's Daytona 500 and has thrown his arms around anyone in the garage who needs advice.
Linus Lundqvist lands IndyCar ride with Chip Ganassi Racing
The 24-year-old Lundqvist won the Indy Lights championship in 2022 -- a title that came with a scholarship intended for the winner to use on an IndyCar promotion. But it never came together for Lundqvist, and the seat at Dale Coyne Racing that most expected him to get instead went to Sting Ray Robb.

Marcus Armstrong signs Ganassi extension, will race Indy 500
IndyCar Rookie of the Year leader Marcus Armstrong has signed a multiyear extension with Chip Ganassi Racing that will see him compete in the full series schedule, including the Indianapolis 500, starting in 2024. Armstrong, 23, holds a 26-point lead over Agustin Canapino for top rookie honors entering Sunday's season finale at Laguna Seca. Armstrong built that edge despite missing all five oval races this year while racing only road and street courses. Armstrong has four top-10 finishes this season, including a best of seventh in Toronto in July. He moved to IndyCar after three years in Formula 2, where he won four races and had eight podium finishes. He is scheduled to test on his first oval next week at Texas Motor Speedway.

Nenechek's Kansa win catapults Kligerman to playoffs, Jones out

Scott Dixon rallies to close IndyCar season with another win
The six-time IndyCar champion won the season finale Sunday at Laguna Seca -- his first win at the permanent California road course, 56th of his career and third in the final four races of the season. His turnaround last month ensured that Dixon's streak of 19 consecutive seasons with at least one win remaining intact. Dixon had been mathematically eligible to challenge Palou for the title until the Portland victory. He was still guaranteed to finish second in the standings no matter what happened in Sunday's finale.

NASCAR, NFL, MLB oppose stadium restriction changes
Flight restrictions were first put into place over stadiums following 9/11. Currently, the FAA issues a temporary flight restriction above any stadium or raceway that seats more than 30,000 people from one hour before the event until one hour after, creating a no-fly zone 3,000 feet above and three nautical miles from the center of the stadium.

Byron took the lead for the first time right after the final restart with six laps left Sunday at Texas, staying in front after going underneath Wallace and Chase Briscoe, to win the opener of the second round of the playoffs and get the 300th victory for Hendrick Motorsports.
