Coyotes reach deal with Scripps Sports ro show games over air
Scripps will broadcast all non-national Coyotes games to roughly 3 million people in Arizona and Utah in the deal announced on Thursday. The Vegas Golden Knights are the only other NHL team to broadcast its games over the air. The deal comes a day after Diamond Sports Net Arizona agreed to end its telecast rights agreement with the Coyotes.

NHL clarifies on specialty initiatives, sources say
The update was sent because of "confusion" about the guidance, the league source said. The new, "much clearer" memo explained that restrictions cover on-ice activity and noted that "players should be encouraged to express themselves off the ice," the team source said. Player participation in club-related messaging is voluntary if permitted.

Sabres hire ex-NHL goalie Craig Anderson as liaison

Former NHL goaltender Craig Anderson has an unusual new job with his former team, the Buffalo Sabres. Anderson, who played his last game with the Sabres in April after 20 seasons in the NHL, has been hired as a "hockey liaison" by the organization. The part-time role doesn't make him a coach or an executive. According to the Sabres, Anderson will be "a trusted voice in the Sabres' locker room, providing insight, guidance, and support" to the players and coaching staff. Anderson, 42, played his final two NHL seasons in Buffalo. He's tied for 31st among goaltenders in NHL history with 319 career wins and is the all-time leader in wins for the Ottawa Senators with 202.

Joe Thornton makes it official, retires after long NHL career

Joe Thorton has officially announced his retirement from the NHL following a 24-year career as one of the game's top playmakers. The 44-year-old Thornton hadn't played since the 2021-22 season with Florida but hadn't made an official declaration about his plans until releasing a video Saturday through the San Jose Sharks. Thornton entered the NHL as the No. 1 overall pick by Boston in 1997, had his greatest success in 15 seasons with San Jose following a trade to the Sharks, and then finished his career by playing one season in Toronto and Florida. He played 1,714 regular-season games, recording 1,109 assists and 430 goals. He was a four-time All-Star, an Olympic gold medalist for Canada in 2010 and won the Hart Trophy as MVP and Art Ross Trophy as scoring leader in 2005-06 after getting traded early that season from Boston to San Jose.

Nearly 8,000 fans at Sheffield's Utilita Arena were asked to leave the building because of what the Panthers announced as a "major medical emergency."
