Western Hockey League to make neck guard protection mandatory
Initially, the WHL was the only one of the three leagues within the Canadian Hockey League that did not make neck protectors mandatory. Both the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League already had a mandatory neck protection provision.

Report: Canadians minority stake sold at record $2.5B valuation
The Toronto Maple Leafs were part of an $8 billion valuation this summer, but it was part of a stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which also includes the NBA's Toronto Raptors and Major League Soccer's Toronto FC.

Thousands gathers to remember late hockey player Adam Johnson
Johnson helped Minnesota-Duluth reach two NCAA tournaments. He scored an overtime winner in the 2017 tournament, sending the Bulldogs to the Frozen Four by beating Boston University.

He also played for three American Hockey League clubs during his career and in Germany with the Augsburger Panther in 2022-23 before agreeing to join Nottingham for this season.

The Nottingham Panthers, who play in England's Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), announced Sunday that Johnson died after his throat was cut by a skate blade during a collision in Saturday's game against the Sheffield Steelers. Johnson was 29. Johnson received emergency treatment on the ice before being taken to Sheffield's Northern General Hospital. Nearly 8,000 fans at Sheffield's Utilita Arena were asked to leave the building because of what the Panthers announced as a "major medical emergency."

Man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in adams Johnson death
The arrest comes more than two weeks since police began investigating the incident that led to Johnson's death on Oct. 28. Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).
