Star Wars: Andor

Another great episode! Everything that happens is logical, all the characters feel like real people, the dialogue rings true. I don't want to say it's "Star Wars for adults!" - because I'm an adult and I can enjoy pulpier stuff like the prequels or the Mandalorian just as much - but it kind of is!

Admiral Yularen and his famous moustache! He was a much nicer guy in Clone Wars.

It's amazing how the show can get me rooting for Dedra even though she's a space Nazi! But a a smarter space Nazi!

It would be hilarious if Syril never actually impacts the plot again and just goes through a series of shitter and shitter jobs before killing himself in the finale.

Space beach resort was an unexpected delight! And the music! I was kind of expecting to see "AND ALAN TUDYK" in the closing credits but maybe the droid doesn't have his voice until Andor reprograms it (or they all have different voices and that wasn't actually K-2 I don't know.)

What I hope for and expect from this show is a lot closer to The Last Jedi's "you're nobody" than Rise of Skywalker's "you're Rey! Palpatine!". I don't expect we'll find his sister.

(And re: Dedra specifically, Andor is coded as ethnic and Dedra is coded as v aryan.)

There was a girl in the trailers who I hadn't noticed in the show yet and thought "maybe that's Cassian's sister?" Turns out she was Luthen's assistant (Kleya is the character's name) I just hadn't recognised her yet because she didn't dress like in the trailer until this week in her meeting with Vel. And the actress does vaguely resemble the kid who was playing Cassian's sistser (though I think she's probably white?) The only way I could say her being the sister is if Luthen knew of the connection all along, because otherwise it would be a stupidly big coincidence and not the kind of thing I think this show would do. It would also mean she just put a hit out on her brother...

Got strong THX 1138 vibes from this, which is ironic considering Lucas isn't involved.

Slightly weird hearing American actors say British phases.

Always nice to see Moxey from Aug Weidersien Pet showing up in something again.

I thought this was more like just after Saw abandoned Jyn, or around the same time?

Another excellent episode; the show hasn't missed yet. All the little details, the way everything looks, the acting, the multiple philosophies existing and clashing within the rebellion...all aspects of the production, really!

Looking more and more unlikely that Karn is going to have a turn around and join the rebellion. Can't imagine Dedra would lower herself to sleeping with him either!

Cassian's mom is going to die trying to rescue Bix right as Cassian arrives home isn't she, fuck.

ANDY SERKIS OBVIOUSLY PLAYING A YOUNG SNOKE WE'RE GETTING HIS ORIGIN OMG.

The prison scenes were really good. They got the psychology of it, I think. I can see how making it a competition with such basic rewards would work.

That's really not something that would fit the tone of this show or the movie.

Speaking of not fitting the tone, Andor characters in a LEGO game feels weird...but I do want to play as Bix and run around hitting people with her big spanner.

So I'm finally making inroads into Andor - just finished episode 5. It's a fascinating watch - Star Wars, but not Star Wars. Several times I catch myself raising an eyebrow, bemused at how "adult" it seems. It's a slow burn, but it's different enough to hold my attention.

I'd love Star Wars to continue down this path and tell more mature, character-driven stories.

OF COURSE this is getting a middling reaction on TrekBBS, the board where Picard season 2 gets 10/10 ratings. Of fucking course.
