Prescott: Extension 'can be done' , Lamb 'ready to get back'
Prescott is entering the final year of his four-year, $140 million contract and is set to count for $55 million against the salary cap. The Cowboys cannot put the franchise tag on Prescott after the season, which means without an extension he would be able to hit the open market next March. - CeeDee Lamb missed his 10th day of training camp in a holdout.

Cowboys counting on 2023 first-rounder Mazi Smith to shine
The defensive tackle was credited with 15 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss. He played 304 of 1,070 snaps and four in the playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers for a defense that badly needed help stopping the run. He was listed at 328 pounds but dipped closer to 295 pounds by the time the season ended.

**********
Smith's career at Michigan also started slowly. He played in just seven games his first two seasons and was credited with five tackles. He started his final 28 games over his last two years and was named a first-team All-Big Ten pick as a senior when he had 48 tackles.

Spagnola: What a one-two punch on the corner

We come to training camp every year looking for the Cowboys to solve problems. Like this year. What's the running back position going to look like? Can Mazi Smith really play? Will first-round pick Tyler Guyton be ready to start the season as the starting left tackle, replacing future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith? When will the Cowboys get wide receiver CeeDee Lamb signed to a contract extension? What about Dak, too? Will Jalen Tolbert become the No. 3 wide receiver? What about the linebacker position? On and on and on. And just asking, are there any other teams in the NFL lining up two All-Pro corners? Two Pro Bowl corners? How sweet is that? Well, hey, new-old defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, now in his 29th year coaching in the NFL, ever had such a luxury out at cornerback? As for the Cowboys, before the arrival of Diggs and Bland, they only had seven previous Pro Bowl cornerbacks, and only once did they have two career Pro Bowl cornerbacks actually playing at the same time: Mel Renfro for half the 1967 season and Cornell Green before he was switched to safety.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones says no urgency on CeeDee Lamb extension

Lamb is entering the last year of a deal scheduled to pay him $17.99 million this season and did not report to training camp as he looks for a new contract that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers. The Cowboys placed Lamb on the reserve/did not report list earlier in the week to add a roster spot during training camp. When asked whether he can envision the season opener coming and Lamb not being ready to go, Jones said, "Well, I don't know about that, but I know that we're getting great work, making real progress and I don't think losing a step at where we're at now."

Lamb skipped the Cowboys' mandatory minicamp in June, leading to fines totaling roughly $100,000, although those can be rescinded by the team. Lamb is being fined $40,000 for every day he has missed during training camp, which can be rescinded since he's on his rookie deal. In 17 games last season, Lamb had 135 catches for 1,749 receiving yards, both team records. His 135 receptions led the NFL. Lamb retweeted the quote on social media, saying, "lol."

Cowboys' Jerry Jones says no urgency on CeeDee Lamb extension

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is being held out of Friday's light practice with ankle soreness after the joint practice Thursday with the Los Angeles Rams. The Cowboys had their most competitive practice of training camp Thursday. Prescott, who turned 31 on July 29, did not appear to be limited in his movements. Last month, Prescott briefly wore a walking boot after what was described as a right foot sprain after some workouts before training camp. The Cowboys and Prescott have had talks regarding a contract extension. He is set to become a free agent after the season as he plays out the final year of a four-year, $160 million deal he signed in 2021. He is set to make $29 million this season and has a salary cap figure of roughly $55 million.

Vikings deal CB Booth to Cowboys for CB Wright

The Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikongs agreed to a trade Friday to exchange cornerbacks whose time had run out with their respective teams. The Cowboys will receive cornerback Andrew Booth Jr., the No. 42 pick of the 2022 draft, who played only 11% of the Vikings' defensive snaps over the past two seasons. The Vikings will take on cornerback Nahshon Wright, a third-round pick in 2021 who played in just 22 games with three starts and one interception. The Cowboys thought highly of Booth during the 2022 draft process and hope a change in scenery and perhaps scheme under new coordinator Mike Zimmer, former Vikings head coach, can help his development. Booth had a long injury history during his college career at Clemson and suffered a torn meniscus during his rookie season that required surgery and limited him to six games.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones to holdout WR CeeDee Lamb: 'You're missed'

Three days after saying there was no urgency in getting All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb signed to a contract extension, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones struck a different tone Sunday. The Cowboys have been in discussions with Lamb regarding an extension that would make him among the highest paid receivers in the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings signed Justin Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million deal that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Lamb faces daily fines of $40,000 and because he will miss the Rams' preseason game, he could be fined nearly $1 million. However, all fines are at the team's discretion because Lamb is on his rookie deal, so they can be rescinded. The Cowboys open the regular season Sept. 8 at the Cleveland Browns.

Cowboys lead NFL franchises at $10.32B valuation, per Sportico

The Dallas Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl since their star quarterback Dak Prescott was 2½ years old. That last championship came on Jan. 28, 1996. Plenty of fruitless seasons have followed for "America's Team," but the lack of another Lombardi Trophy hasn't seemed to diminish their overall value. Sportico released franchise valuations for the top 10 NFL teams Tuesday, and the Cowboys were head and shoulders atop the list with a value of $10.32 billion. They became the first sports franchise to surpass the $10 billion valuation. Forbes valued the Cowboys at $9 billion in September. Per Sportico, the 32 NFL franchises collectively are worth $190 billion, including team-related businesses and real estate held by the owners.

Sources: Cowboys LT Edoga to miss extended time with toe injury

If Dallas Cowboys' first-round pick Tyler Guyton was not on an accelerated path already, he is now with veteran left tackle Chuma Edoga suffering a toe injury that will force him to miss time into the regular season, according to multiple sources. Edoga hurt his toe in the first quarter of the Cowboys' first preseason game Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams and was wearing a walking boot afterward. He had an MRI on Monday, but there has been no determination regarding surgery yet. The Cowboys are hoping Guyton can replace eight-time Pro Bowl Tyron Smithr, who signed as a free agent with the New York Jets in the offseason. Edoga started six games last season at guard and tackle in his first year with the Cowboys. He re-signed with the team in April on a one-year deal.

Cowboys' Micah Parsons sure CeeDee Lamb will suit up for Week 1

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's holdout has reached 21 days, but that does not mean he is not paying attention to what's going on at training camp without him. Micah Parsons said Lamb reached out to him and said, "'Oh, you going crazy,'" in practice after watching practice film on his tablet. Parsons does not have back channels to the negotiations, but he said he does believe Lamb will be on board soon. The Cowboys have exchanged proposals with Lamb's agent, but work remains to get a deal done that would make him among the highest-paid receivers in the game. He is set to make $17.99 million on the fifth-year option. Parsons is eyeing the Sept. 8 season opener against the Cleveland Browns. Lamb's fines have totaled more than $1 million with him skipping the mandatory minicamp in June, training camp and the first preseason game, although the fines can be rescinded by the team because he is on his rookie deal. Parsons said Lamb would need two or three practices to get back up to speed. Coach Mike McCarthy said the team would be smart whenever Lamb reports.
