Prescott: Extension 'can be done' , Lamb 'ready to get back'
Prescott is entering the final year of his four-year, $140 million contract and is set to count for $55 million against the salary cap. The Cowboys cannot put the franchise tag on Prescott after the season, which means without an extension he would be able to hit the open market next March. - CeeDee Lamb missed his 10th day of training camp in a holdout.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones says no urgency on CeeDee Lamb extension

Lamb is entering the last year of a deal scheduled to pay him $17.99 million this season and did not report to training camp as he looks for a new contract that would make him one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers. The Cowboys placed Lamb on the reserve/did not report list earlier in the week to add a roster spot during training camp. When asked whether he can envision the season opener coming and Lamb not being ready to go, Jones said, "Well, I don't know about that, but I know that we're getting great work, making real progress and I don't think losing a step at where we're at now."

Lamb skipped the Cowboys' mandatory minicamp in June, leading to fines totaling roughly $100,000, although those can be rescinded by the team. Lamb is being fined $40,000 for every day he has missed during training camp, which can be rescinded since he's on his rookie deal. In 17 games last season, Lamb had 135 catches for 1,749 receiving yards, both team records. His 135 receptions led the NFL. Lamb retweeted the quote on social media, saying, "lol."

Cowboys' Jerry Jones to holdout WR CeeDee Lamb: 'You're missed'

Three days after saying there was no urgency in getting All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb signed to a contract extension, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones struck a different tone Sunday. The Cowboys have been in discussions with Lamb regarding an extension that would make him among the highest paid receivers in the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings signed Justin Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million deal that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Lamb faces daily fines of $40,000 and because he will miss the Rams' preseason game, he could be fined nearly $1 million. However, all fines are at the team's discretion because Lamb is on his rookie deal, so they can be rescinded. The Cowboys open the regular season Sept. 8 at the Cleveland Browns.

Cowboys' Micah Parsons sure CeeDee Lamb will suit up for Week 1

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's holdout has reached 21 days, but that does not mean he is not paying attention to what's going on at training camp without him. Micah Parsons said Lamb reached out to him and said, "'Oh, you going crazy,'" in practice after watching practice film on his tablet. Parsons does not have back channels to the negotiations, but he said he does believe Lamb will be on board soon. The Cowboys have exchanged proposals with Lamb's agent, but work remains to get a deal done that would make him among the highest-paid receivers in the game. He is set to make $17.99 million on the fifth-year option. Parsons is eyeing the Sept. 8 season opener against the Cleveland Browns. Lamb's fines have totaled more than $1 million with him skipping the mandatory minicamp in June, training camp and the first preseason game, although the fines can be rescinded by the team because he is on his rookie deal. Parsons said Lamb would need two or three practices to get back up to speed. Coach Mike McCarthy said the team would be smart whenever Lamb reports.

Jerry Jones: Cowboys, CeeDee Lamb having 'promising talks'

As the holdout of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb continues, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday the sides are having "promising talks" regarding a contract extension. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the highest-paid wide receiver at $35 million per season. The Cowboys have made an offer to make Lamb the second-highest-paid, sources told ESPN, but it has not closed the gap. Jones said his level of concern has not risen the more time Lamb has missed. Asked whether he is optimistic there will be a deal, Jones said, "Well, I think I am and when I say that, it doesn't sound too promising. The facts are that I believe we'll come together. I don't want to speak for him. That's what I'm trying not to do. But we wouldn't have offered him what we've offered him if we didn't want him to be here." Jones said his level of concern has not risen the more time Lamb has missed.

Cowboys' Trey Lance throws 5 picks. Chargers' long TDs pace 26-19 victory over Dallas

Los Angeles Chargers: 1 - 2

Derius Davis ran 70 yards for a touchdown on LA's first play and Simi Fehoko caught a 78-yard scoring pass to start the second quarter.
Easton Stick was on the throwing end of Fehoko's long TD, but was just 11 of 28 for 109 yards with an interception otherwise as the Chargers try to sort out the backup plan behind Justin Herbert. Davis, a receiver/kick returner, took an end-around handoff from Stick and beat everybody to the LA sideline, cutting back inside without getting touched.

Dallas: 1 - 2

Trey Lance played a bunch in the preseason for the Dallas Cowboys and finished with a bevy of interceptions. The 2021 No. 3 overall pick by San Francisco played most of the preseason — without any turnovers before facing the Chargers — as Dallas tries to decide if Lance will be part of the club’s future. It could be Lance’s last extensive action for the Cowboys.

Cowboys All-Pro CB DaRon Bland out 6-8 weeks with foot injury

The Dallas Cowboys will be without All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland for six to eight weeks because of a stress fracture in his left foot. If he follows the timeline, Bland could return in mid-October, which might cost him the first five or six games. The Cowboys have their bye week Oct. 20. Bland will undergo surgery on his fifth metatarsal Monday, according to a source, after reporting soreness following the Cowboys' final practice while in Oxnard, California. A year ago, Bland led the NFL with nine interceptions and set a league record by turning five of them into pick-sixes en route to earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. Without Bland, the Cowboys have Diggs as well as Jourdan Lewis, who had a strong camp, working the slot. But losing Bland is a blow to new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. With Bland and Diggs, the Cowboys believed they had one of the best cornerback pairings in the NFL. Both players have a knack for finding the ball. Bland had 14 interceptions in his first two seasons, while Diggs has 18 in his four-year career, including a league-leading 11 in 2021. Bland is the second major loss to the defense during training camp. Pass rusher Sam Williams was lost for the season before the team practiced in pads because of a torn ACL in his left knee.

Sources: Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb agrees to four-year, $136M deal

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has ended his holdout and agreed to a four-year, $136 million deal that makes him the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday. The deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver, and $100 million guaranteed, per sources. Lamb was set to play the 2024 season on the $17.99 million fifth-year option of his rookie deal and become a free agent after the season, but the Cowboys were able to lock him up through the 2028 season with the new deal. The deal makes Lamb the highest-paid wide receiver in Cowboys' history.

The Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson tops the market at $35 million a season. The Philadelphia Eagles' A.J. Brown checks in at $32 million per year, the Detroit Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown at $30.003 million and the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill at $30 million.

By missing training camp and three preseason games, Lamb could be fined more than $3 million. But the team has the ability to rescind the penalty since he was on his rookie contract. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Lamb's return will boost the morale of his team. Lamb has 32 touchdown catches in his first four seasons, only Hayes (45) and Bryant (40) have more in team history. He ended last season with a touchdown in nine consecutive games. The Cowboys approached Lamb, 25, with an extension in 2023, but talks never really progressed. He skipped the voluntary offseason program for the first time in his career.

Cowboys to sign RB Dalvin Cook to practice squad, sources say

The Dallas Cowboys will sign veteran running bac Dalvin Cook, his agency told ESPN. Cook, who visited with Dallas on Tuesday, will join the Cowboys' practice squad, sources told ESPN. The Cowboys' 53-man roster already includes running backs Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn and fullback Hunter Luepke. Cook's workout Tuesday went well, and multiple sources told ESPN that he looked to be in good shape. As a member of the practice squad, Cook would be eligible to be called up to the gameday roster for Dallas' Sept. 8 opener against the Browns. Players are allowed three elevations from the practice squad to the 46-man game-day roster, but they would need to be added to the 53-man roster after that to continue to be active.

Cook, 29, spent last season with the Jets and Ravens. In 15 games with the Jets, he rushed for 214 yards on just 3.2 yards per carry. He joined the Ravens in January and rushed for 23 yards on eight carries in their divisional round victory against the Texans, but he did not play in the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs. Cook's 5,238 rushing yards over the past five seasons are the fourth-most in the NFL over that stretch, ahead of Elliott and behind only Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs and Nick Chubb. A second-round draft selection of the Vikings in 2017, Cook is the third-leading rusher in Minnesota franchise history. He had four consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons from 2019 to 2022 with the Vikings. His best season came in 2020, when he ran for 1,557 yards with 16 touchdowns. He also has 236 career receptions for 1,872 yards and five touchdowns.

Lamb vows to 'cherish every bit' of being a Cowboy

When CeeDee Lamb was introduced to the fans inside Ford Center for the Dallas Cowboys' first training camp practice of the summer at The Star, the cheer was a little louder and meaningful. Earlier in the day, Lamb signed his four-year, $136 million contract extension. He then went through his first workout with his teammates, albeit a limited one as he works up to speed after missing more than 30 days in Oxnard, California, in a holdout. "I wish we would have had a camp. It's OK though. It will work out fitting back in," Lamb said after Tuesday's practice. "But very excited for the moment. Cherish every bit of it." Lamb led the NFL with 135 receptions last year and set a team record with 1,747 receiving yards while scoring 14 touchdowns (12 receiving, two rushing). He added 15 pounds to his frame, something he was going to do if the contract agreement took place earlier in the offseason.

No deadline for Cowboys' Dak Prescott, but no deal 'says a lot'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said he does not need a contract extension to be done before the season starts Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Browns. But does Prescott want it finished? Prescott is set to play on the final year of a four-year, $160 million deal he signed in 2021. He is scheduled to make $29 million this season and count $55 million against the salary cap. The Cowboys and France negotiated over multiple years before their agreement in 2021. The Cowboys have only a matter of months now because they cannot place the franchise tag on Prescott after the season, which will allow him to hit the open market next March. If that happens, Prescott will count $40 million against the Cowboys' 2025 salary cap.
